Ingredients

Cake
  • 1 box white cake mix (15.25 ounces)
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
Frosting & Decorations
  • 1 container vanilla frosting (16 ounces)
  • Green food coloring
  • Assorted edible flowers (pansies, violets, etc.)
  • Butterfly sprinkles or edible butterfly decorations
  • Graham cracker crumbs (optional, for a 'soil' effect)
  • Icing sugar (for dusting)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. Combine cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Pour batter into prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Tint the vanilla frosting with green food coloring to create a meadow-like base.
  6. Once the cake is completely cool, frost the entire cake with the green frosting.
  7. Arrange edible flowers on top of the cake to create a natural meadow design.
  8. Place butterfly sprinkles or edible butterfly decorations amongst the flowers.
  9. Optional: Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs around the base of the cake to create a 'soil' effect.
  10. Dust with icing sugar before serving for an elegant finish.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, high-quality edible flowers. Ensure the cake is completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
