- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Combine Guinness and butter in a saucepan. Heat until butter is melted, then whisk in cocoa powder.

- Whisk together eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
- Add the wet ingredients to the batter and mix until smooth.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Beat the softened Irish butter until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating well after each addition.
- Add the heavy cream until the buttercream reaches your desired consistency.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, frost with the Irish buttercream.
- Decorate as desired.
