Cake and Frosting
  • Your favorite cake recipe (baked and cooled)
  • Vanilla buttercream frosting
Decorations
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Orange food coloring
  • Small round candies (yellow, orange, or a mix)
Tools
  • Piping bag
  • Round piping tip (medium size)
  • Offset spatula

Method
 

  1. Frost the entire cake with a thin layer of vanilla buttercream (crumb coat). Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Divide the remaining buttercream into two bowls. Tint one bowl yellow and the other orange using food coloring.
  3. Frost the cake with the yellow buttercream, creating a smooth, even surface.
  4. Place the orange buttercream into the piping bag fitted with the round tip.
  5. Pipe concentric circles of orange buttercream on top of the cake, starting from the center and working outwards.
  6. Use the offset spatula to gently blend the edges of the orange circles with the yellow frosting, creating a sun-kissed effect.
  7. Arrange the round candies around the outer edge of the cake to resemble sun rays.
  8. Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a more intense sun-kissed effect, use a darker shade of orange food coloring.
