  • Food coloring gels (various colors) Various colors
  • Piping bags
  • Russian piping nozzles
  • Couplers (optional, for easy nozzle switching) Optional, for easy nozzle switching
  • Small bowls or containers for coloring buttercream For coloring buttercream

Method
 

  1. Prepare buttercream frosting; it needs to be stiff.
  2. Divide buttercream into small bowls.
  3. Add food coloring to each bowl and mix.
  4. Fit piping bag with nozzle and coupler (if using).
  5. Fill piping bag with colored buttercream.
  6. Hold bag vertically, nozzle above surface.
  7. Apply pressure to form a flower shape.
  8. Stop pressure and lift bag straight up.
  9. Repeat with different colors and nozzles.
  10. Chill decorated cake to help buttercream set.
